DUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I'VE FINISHED BLOGGING.  1 OUT BLESSSSS.!

Evaluation question 8: Looking back at the preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned from the progression from it to the full product?

Titles

What you're seeing below is the title for our preliminary film, it is exactly in the middle of a black screen with a faint red tint on the writing. This was created on Live Type by Cheri, as one of the first titles we made. At first we were more than satisfied with the title but then we eventually realised that the writing wasn't that readable. However the idea was to tilt it slightly to make the title very disorientated and may pass as connotations for the film.

Below this is the title for our Final thriller. It was downloaded it from a website called dafont.com. as a group we really liked the boldness of it and the fact that it stood out, It held some connotations of the film as we placed it next to the London eye that is a circular attraction. Referring to the name THE CYCLE that means rotation/circle.

Mise en scene

MISE EN SCENE

As this was our final film, we wanted to get the best locations involved, soooooooo we filmed at South bank for shots of the London Eye and shots of the Big Ben, here is where we spent most time filming and then at Elias' and Demi's houses to film the shots of me having a bad dream and then the 'helping with the shopping' shots. We also filmed the 'flashback' shots in a park near the college. The props we used were a flower, a map, fake blood, tesco bags etc. But below you can see some of the things we used as mise en scene down southbank, for example, the London Eye and Big ben but also the big crowds, the look-a-like haunted trees, the map which introduces me and demi, and the water/fence thing.

Evaluation question 7: What have you learned about technologies throughout the process of constructing this product?

Meanwhilst spending time researching, planning and filming i've probably learnt more about technology than i did in my 5 years of studying ICT in secondary school.

By using blogger i have learned how to successfully write posts, upload pictures, embed videos, change fonts, see how forward or behind you are, and just having fun on it in general.

We used some proper JVC cameras to record our footage, they were proffessional cameras probably worth more than a months rent which everyone had to agree that the quality of these cameras was impecible.

Metaphorically, I've shook hands with Live type, Sound Track Pro, Quick Time, Handbreak as we had to use all of these programmes in order to push ourselves abit more to make our thriller opening the best it could be.

Evaluation question 4&5: What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? How will you attract/address you audience?

Media institution that might distribute our film and why?

Because we are using a low bugdet production company and candi studios we have to find some sort of advertising which will make the word abbout the film spread but not cost us alot of money or just away from mainstream all together.  Since advertisement plays a major role in the success of a product, we have this apply this to our ideas and make sure that we attract a good target audience. Obviously we are not expecting a film directed by steven spielberg but on the other hand we did have access to some good equipment and software which helped our opening look alrightttttt.!

We were thinking as a good way to publicise our opening we could upload the film onto Vimeo, Youtube, blogger, basically we wanted to release it virally because young people are spending most of their day on social networking sites such as facebook, twitter, PROFILE PIC etc LOL our target audience is mainly people my age and where i have more than a few friends on facebook i reckon i could get the opening a few hundred views in space of a few days. As producers we are willing to accept criticism from people because we're at that mature stage where we learn from our mistakes and move on.
This is what it would look like when you post your film on facebook :

youtube is already a worldwide website that people from other sides of the world can see your videos without you even publicising it to them as youtube has its own way of publicising its videos aswell.

This is where you would've caught me and all the other As and A2 students on tuesday lunchtime as we spent roughly 2 hours watching all of our thriller openings, some were funny, some were good, some were short, some where fresh, some didnt even make sense but i swear thats the whole point in openings, your not meant to give it away because that's what's keeping the audience there for another hour or 2.

Evaluation question 3: Who would be the audience for your media product?

A basic example of a target audience would be more of a female than males in her early 20's and is employed and enjoys going out for a nice day out with her husband or kids to the cinema on her days off. She has a addiction to shopping as soon as her wage comes through but she'll never be late to pay a bill.
She gets dragged into films quickly as she loves the new films that the media is bringing out, more likely to only go with a orange wednesday number just to save a bit of money, and shops at Primark as she is not disappointed with the quality and impressed by the price.

The target audience would mostly contain the following things in her side/handbag:

Evaluation question 2: How does your media product represent particular social groups.

Since our video consisted of a lot of influences from other films and other films clearly show different social groups no matter what type of film it is, our film shows different social groups as we show a stalker waiting to prey on his victim, and we also see a victim lose her life and innocence after stroker a flower and  'Rellik' sneaking up behind her.

Our film 'the cycle' also shows social groups who have a psychological disorder who have a passion for killing for example the man who is now being convicted for severing the bodies of 2 of his ex girlfriends and is believed to kill another 5 women. This is proof that we show real life social groups as most of the things you see in films apart from supernatural and sci-fi fiction films is inspired from real life events.

Also like a lot of situations in life a person seems normal with normal attributes and behaviour AT FIRST. Then you start to see the flaws and true colours and person and turns out they are the complete opposite of what they first seemed, for example we see Rellik walking with these filmings, smiling, talking, acting like everything's normal and next thing you know they're all DEAD.

Evaluation - Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Real media products consist on the use of:
  • an establishing shot - The London eye
  • title sequence in a specific order - We had the ident first and then the production company followed by the actors names and finally, the music & edited by...
  • ident - the music usually comes after the ident but we decided to add heavy breathing as well as some of the music
  • setting a mood - the breathing right at the start shows that there will be some sort of tension in the film and that creates a chilling mood for the audience
Intertextuality we've been using because of inspiritaions from other films:

similar opening to the taking of pelham 123 because of the establishing shot that they use in the start is similar to our establishing shot of the london eye.

Another inspirational use of intertextuality we saw in another film was the close up of the face when the women wakes up from the water in 'What lies beneath'. We used the same shot and positioning of the camera to make the same effect that the film made.

Relief!!

AHHHHHHHHHH!!! The feeling you get when something is over, is really something special and i know everyone, not just in my group, but in the class is feeling the same way that i am. Unfortunately there is still a few more things the class needs to do individually in their groups but regarding my group we are quite confident with what we have produced and now we are just awaiting the feedback from other teachers and students.

Finished!!!

Our Thriller film is now completely finished.. I am happy to say that we were able to finish at the end of our lesson with a few minutes to stay behind after college.. It was a hard task that did consume lots of time and effort especially the editing process. We was all stressed out as we really wanted our film to look as successful as possible. We added our soundtrack that was made by Me in our group and it sounded really good with the rest of the film. We also had to quickly get recordings of Elias breathing heavily as if he had just awoken a bad nightmare. (which didn't turn out so good so we used the breathing sounds already on soudtrack pro).

As today was our very last editing, we put in all the names e.g. directors name, actors name etc, Our titles are really simple but still very appealing. They crawl into a black screen  (white font) and slide outwards.
Hopefully everyone enjoys our thriller opening and will be excited to see what happens when our film is shown on the big screen.!!

sounds from soundtrack.

THE PICTURE BELOW SHOWS US THE SELECTION OF SOUNDS WE HAD WHEN WE DECIDED TO DO OUR SOUNDTRACK FOR THE OPENING. WE ALREADY HAD THE ROUGH IDEA. BUT FOR THE BEGINNING AND ENDING OF OUR OPENING SEQUENCE WE CHOSE TO USE 'HEAVY BREATHING' TO SHOW THAT OUR ACTOR WAS WAKING UP FROM HIS NIGHTMARE
TO NAVIGATE TO THIS WE HAD TO GO TO
-EFFECTS
-PEOPLE
-THEN TYPED IN 'BREATHING'
THERE WAS THEN A SELECTION OF EITHER FEMALE OR MALES BREATHING TYPES WITH A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT EXAMPLES FOR US TO LOOK AT AND DECIDE WHICH ONE TO USE.

changing the credits!!!

our CREATIVE idea of using our initials as our production name got 'ejected' or in other words bin as the teacher gave us some 'new' feedback about how using initials is tacky which caused more stress as we got told about this, LAST MINUTES.

In the end we decided we wanted our film to look as if it was made by an independent company as there was no way we was gonna use paramounts' name or 20th century fox because the thriller has nowhere near the budget or skill in order to make those names believable.

We chose the producers name to be 'Mike Collins' which is quite persuasive for a made up name and for the production and distribution companies ina slide in the opening you will see 'In Association with Safari Films and Broadway Ent'.

OUR Group 14

Looking around during the filming process i saw that many groups were struggling or got easily frustrated with all group members surrounded around the computer screen shouting and telling each other there ideas. As a way to keep our filming pace fast we allocated jobs to each member in most circumstances.
For instance when we met up for filming we decided who would bring the props for that day or who would bring the filming equipment.

  • Sheri- Focused on the Titles of our Thriller opening and the way it would be presented
  • Elias- Focused on the music that went into any scenes we needed, he often used Soundtrack pro
  • Mariama & Myself (Demi)- Focused on Editing ad doing all the Importing and Exporting of devices.
We took it in turn to return equipment if needed.
As a group i actually think we worked rather well, even tough we had a few disagreements we always done majority vote or just tried to incorporate every ones idea the best we could.

group 14s: Pitch 'The Cycle'

Demi from our group very kindly took time out to go on the internet and use a programme called prezi which in other words is a nicer and more advanced version of a presentation. We presented this to the whole class as well as our media teacher. We were given a lot of feedback from the rest of our classmates on what they thought we could improve on and what they thought about the pitch as a whole in general. The teacher also gave us a lot of advice and tips that we could use.

COUNTDOWN!!!!

ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT!!!!!!!

AND WE STILL HAVE A FEW THINGS TO DO FOR EXAMPLE AS A GROUP WE SITLL NEED TO

.MAKE A SOUNDTRACK FOR OUR THRILLER OPENING (WHICH I WILL TAKE CARE OF)

.ADD SOME MORE SHOTS AND DEVELOP THE FLASHBACKS AS THE MOVIES ONLY ROUGHLY A MINUTE LONG

.CORRECT THE LITTLE ERRORS THAT WE FOUND WITHIN THE EDITING FOR EXAMPLE WHEN WE WERE PUTTING THE CLIPS NEXT TO EACH OTHER, WE MUST'VE NOT THE PUT THEM NEXT TO EACH OTHER BECAUSE ITS AS IF THE CLIP BLINKS AND A BLACK SCREEN IS SHOWN AND IT DOESN'T LOOK PROFESSIONAL AT ALL.

.WERE ALSO STILL MISSING SOME TITLES SO WE WILL HAVE TO STAY ABIT OF EXTRA HOURS IN ORDER TO MAKE THOSE AND PUT THEM IN EFFECTIVELY WITH THE OPENING.

End of filming.

the first week we came back after the half term out of the two weeks given to us for filming we re-filmed the clips of where i'm sleeping and having the nightmare. On the thursday od that week (10th March) it was interview day for the year 11s below us who are applying to come to this college therefore we was given an extra full day to film. On the other hand we didn't need all the time we was given so we finished early and called it a wrap.

BEWARE: YOU MIGHT GET CAUGHT IN 'THE CYCLE'!

Late changes and adjustments

After we finished filming we came back to college and watched all our clips and found that what we had in our minds wasn't what was being shown to us on the screen so we decided to add little effects and transitions for example when a flashback is being shown it will be black and white and when its showing me having a nightmare its going back to normal colour with another effect but that would be giving it away. ;)

When it comes to more filming, as a group we are quite confident that we already have everything we are going to need for the editing, when we was filming we took quite a few random shops but only now have we noticed how helpful they were going to be.
We are trying to use certain shots and match cuts to give the audience a visceral effect and let the tension play its part on the audience. A lot of clips we are not going to use but we are sure we will make the most out of everything we have.
